The Bank of Russia maintains restrictions on currency withdrawals until March 9, 2026

The Bank of Russia has extended the existing restrictions on withdrawing foreign currency from the bank accounts of individuals and companies until March 9, 2026. The relevant resolution has been published on the regulator’s website.

For individuals whose foreign currency account or deposit was opened before March 9, 2022, they are allowed to withdraw up to $10,000 or the equivalent in euros in cash, based on the balance as of that date. Any remaining funds can be withdrawn in rubles at the official Central Bank exchange rate. In addition, banks will not be allowed to charge a commission for currency withdrawals for the next six months, which is expected to make access to funds easier for the population.

For resident companies, the restrictions remain stricter: they may receive foreign currency only in US dollars, euros, British pounds, and Japanese yen and solely to cover employee business travel expenses.

The Bank of Russia notes that the extension of these restrictions is aimed at balancing the foreign exchange market and ensuring financial stability, while still allowing individuals and businesses to manage their funds within reasonable limits.
