New Compensation Rules for Unused Days Off Upon Dismissal
Starting March 1, 2025, changes in legislation regarding compensation for unused days off upon dismissal will come into effect.
Employers will now be required to compensate employees for all unused rest days granted for working on weekends and public holidays. Employees will receive the difference between the increased pay for working on a weekend and the amount they have already been paid. Compensation will apply to all unused days off accrued during the employee’s tenure with a specific employer.
Additionally, the law clarifies that an employee has the right to use a compensatory day off within one year from the date they worked on a weekend or public holiday. They may either take the day off separately or add it to their annual leave within the same period.
