Rules for taking jewelry across the customs border for people coming to Russia
DATE: September 18, 2023 | AUTHOR: AT
It is allowed to import goods for personal use (including precious stones, jewelry, watches) without paying customs duties, the value of which does not exceed the equivalent of 10,000 euros and (or) their weight does not exceed 50 kg.
When importing precious stones, jewelry, and expensive watches above the permitted limit, it is required to go to the red corridor, show documents confirming the value of the goods (receipt, etc.) and the items and later fill in a customs declaration. In the absence of the confirmation documents, the customs authority determines the value of the imported items on their own. Failure to declare jewelry when exceeding the duty-free limit is punishable by an administrative fine ranging from 50% to 200% of the value of the imported and not-declared items.
Violation of the rules for importing jewelry, watches, and jewels, if the value of the imported items exceeds 10,000 euros, may also result in criminal liability for contraband (imprisonment from 3 to 12 years).
