A bill to combat fake marriages has been submitted to the State Duma

On 1 November 2023 a bill was submitted to the State Duma aimed at combating fake marriages with foreign citizens in order to obtain a temporary residence permit. The bill provides that the permit can only be obtained after two years have passed since the date of marriage registration. This rule does not apply if obtaining a residence permit is subject to government quota. Currently, a residence permit can be obtained within four months after marriage with a citizen of the Russian Federation.
